You might have heard us talking about our unique 8 Wise ™ Approach – a programme that has been developed by professional psychotherapists and mental health practitioners. We’ve run workshops about it, spoken about it at events and referenced it a lot in our social media posts. In case you’re unsure of what it is, we thought that we would dedicate today’s post blog to explaining everything you need to know about it.

At Dalton Wise, we understand that overall wellness is a combination of different aspects. Wellness for us is a sense of overall well-being – throughout your body, mind and soul. It’s an absence of disease, illness and stress. It’s about having a job that you enjoy, satisfying hobbies, joyful relationships, a healthy living environment.

So, we used extensive scientific research to create a programme made up of eight dimensions of wellness which encompasses all of these aspects.

We use this approach with our clients to help them a achieve a balance across the eight dimensions, in order to improve their overall quality of life and optimise their health.

What are the eight dimensions?

  1. Emotional Wellness

Are you emotionally well? If you are, you’ll have a positive outlook, high self-esteem and a strong sense of self. Having emotional wellness means you are comfortable sharing a wide range of feelings with others and you can successfully form relationships.

  1. Physical Wellness

A healthy body is essential for overall wellness. In order to achieve it, you need to look after your body. This means eating healthily, getting quality sleep, and regular exercising.

  1. Spiritual Wellness

This is all about making sure that your actions and the way you’re living your life, reflects your values and beliefs. Do you know why you do the things you do? What is the purpose of your choices?

  1. Environmental Wellness

Picture yourself in your happy place. Somewhere you feel relaxed and safe. Where are you? Are you in your local park? Sitting in your living room? Who are you with? It’s important to spend the majority of your time somewhere that soothes you and with people you feel comfortable around and supported by.

  1. Social Wellness

We have spoken about the importance of socialising in previous blog posts. It has so many benefits both mentally and physically. That’s why it’s so important to have a strong social network.

  1. Intellectual Wellness

It’s never good to be complacent. Our brain needs to be stimulated and challenged. Open yourself up to new ideas and experiences, take the time to learn something new.

  1. Occupational Wellness

We spend the majority of our waking ours at work. We often spend more time with our colleagues than we do our family and friends. In order to achieve overall wellness, it’s essential to have an enjoyable and fulfilling job, with colleagues that support you.

  1. Financial Wellness

Our last dimension is all about finances. That doesn’t mean you need to be living in a mansion and flying first class to be happy. It’s about having stability and being comfortable – living within your means, budgeting, and ensuring that money isn’t something that you have to worry about.

Take a look at our dimensions above – are there any that you feel like you’ve already achieved? Are there some that perhaps you need to work on? These dimensions are all intertwined with one another, and achieving one can often mean you’ve achieved another simultaneously. For example, you get a new job – it’s something you’ve dreamed about doing for years, and it pays well too. You’ve now achieved occupational wellness, financial wellness and spiritual wellness!
